KOTO có nghĩa là “Know One, Teach One” (“Biết Một, Dạy Một”). Sự nghiệp học tập nên được truyền bá, và kiến thức được tạo nên bởi quá trình chia sẻ. Đó là tư duy cốt lõi của Jimmy Pham, người Úc gốc Việt đã sáng lập ra KOTO.
Năm 1999, ông Jimmy mở một trung tâm đào tạo nghiệp vụ du lịch - khách sạn tại Hà Nội, trao cơ hội cho thanh thiếu niên có hoàn cảnh khó khăn và nguy cơ cao thoát khỏi vòng đói nghèo, kiến tạo tương lai tốt đẹp hơn cho bản thân, gia đình và cộng đồng.
25 năm sau, hơn 1200 cựu học viên của chúng tôi hiện đã trở thành bếp trưởng, bếp phó, tổng giám đốc khách sạn và khu nghỉ dưỡng, chủ doanh nghiệp cũng như cử nhân tốt nghiệp đại học. Tất cả đều đang lan tỏa những đóng góp cho gia đình và xã hội.
KOTO tiếp tục được công nhận là doanh nghiệp xã hội phi lợi nhuận hàng đầu không chỉ tại Việt Nam mà còn trên phạm vi toàn cầu. Hiện nay, KOTO trao tặng hơn 100 khóa đào tạo ngành du lịch - khách sạn mỗi năm đến thanh thiếu niên có hoàn cảnh khó khăn tại Việt Nam với mục đích chấm dứt nạn nghèo đói và chắp cánh ước mơ cho học viên.

Lịch Sử KOTO
Jimmy Pham sinh năm 1972 tại Việt Nam và chuyển đến Sydney, Úc khi còn nhỏ để sinh sống cùng mẹ và các anh chị em. Ông luôn biết mình có niềm đam mê mãnh liệt dành cho du lịch, và bắt đầu theo học ngành dịch vụ khách hàng khi lớn lên. Một buổi tối nọ, khi đang tản bộ trên hè phố Sài Gòn trong chuyến trở về Việt Nam đầu tiên của mình, Jimmy đã bắt gặp một số trẻ em đường phố. Ông vô cùng ngỡ ngàng trước những khuôn mặt lấm lem và vô số vết phồng rộp trên chân những đứa trẻ.
Jimmy hỏi, “Các em tắm ở đâu vậy?” và chúng đã trả lời, “Bọn em tắm bên cạnh một nắp cống hở”. Ngày hôm sau, ông đã sắp xếp cho các bạn nhỏ một buổi tắm rửa theo đúng nghĩa của nó. Khi ông rời Việt Nam vào hai tuần sau đó, tấm lòng lương thiện của ông đã được lan truyền rộng rãi, thêm 60 thanh niên được tắm rửa sạch sẽ và cung cấp bữa ăn bởi Jimmy.
Khái niệm KOTO - Biết một, dạy một - ra đời khi Jimmy hỏi một số bạn trẻ xem điều họ thực sự khát khao trong cuộc sống này là gì. Không thể đơn giản hơn, họ chỉ trả lời: “Chúng tôi cần kỹ năng để kiếm được việc làm ổn định”. Lần này, ông quyết định sẽ trở về Việt Nam lâu dài để tạo nên sự khác biệt. Jimmy không biết mình sẽ làm thế nào, chỉ biết rằng ông muốn bắt đầu giúp đỡ ngay bây giờ.
COMPANY STRUCTURE
KOTO Vietnam is a company owned by Mr Jimmy Pham AM. It is Vietnam’s first social enterprise. Jimmy established the company as the vehicle to achieve KOTO’s vision and mission.
GOVERNANCE
KOTO has a range of governance and management policies and practices in place to assure donors, stakeholders and regulators that vulnerable persons are safe, and always protected from physical, mental or sexual abuse. These include:

ensuring that KOTO staff, volunteers, internship hosts, and other service providers have similar, robust governance arrangements in place, and comply with KOTO Vietnam’s requirements, where they apply

implementing human resource policies that ensure that staff and volunteers are vetted, appropriately qualified and trained and supported in their roles

ensuring that trainees are trained, supported and monitored to assist them behave in appropriate ways.
KOTO and KOTO International work closely together to ensure that each of their policies, procedures and activities align closely. Together, the two organisations regularly monitor the safety of the environment and trainees and deal with any complaints or incidents comprehensively and in a fair and transparent manner.

FOUNDER'S MESSAGE
I am humbled that my desire to provide 9 street children with training, a stable income & a safe workplace in a small sandwich café in Hanoi has evolved & grown over the last twenty years. Thanks to the support of our donors, sponsors, partners, volunteers & staff, KOTO has now provided over 1,200 disadvantaged & at-risk youth with an opportunity to improve their lives, their families & their community.
KOTO has evolved since the early days, but I'm pleased to say our philosophy remains prominent in everything we do. KOTO stands for "Know One, Teach One”, & it reflects our belief that if you're in a position where you can help someone less fortunate, then you should help them; & the greatest thanks you can receive is to one day see that person be in a position to do the same for someone else.
I am honoured to find our alumni in every leading hotel & restaurant across the length & breadth of Vietnam. Many alumni are now running their own businesses & providing internship opportunities for KOTO trainees & employing KOTO graduates themselves. With their qualification, many have been awarded scholarships to continue their studies in Australia & several are working in Australia, Germany, New Zealand & Singapore. I am especially proud when our alumni return to work at the KOTO Training Centre and our restaurants/catering services in Hanoi & Ho Chi Minh City to enrich the lives of our trainees and encourage them to also dream large.
